Support Elders

Elderly women who are poor and live alone or with dependent children find them vulnerable, powerless and are neglected by their family or grown up children. Many are too old or physically weak and thus unable to find work. They are forced to beg, and are often homeless. Moved by the plight of destitute single women, Ashaa foundation has taken up program of sponsoring elderly women on an urgent basis. Our volunteers and staff members conducted surveys and identified 190 destitute women who are above 60 year of age.

Women Empowerment

Savitri Devi chose to leave her plush job to make a difference in her Narayanpur panchayat in Dumariya block in Bihar. She has worked for her village as a ‘model panchayat’ when it comes to women’s rights and the survival of daughters. Under her guidance, her village won many awards. A member from the Narayanpur panchayat says “It is we women who understand the basic needs of the village. We are the ones who know the problems relating to water, the health of women and children, facilities in schools, ration cards, roads, and so on. When a woman is a sarpanch, these problems are addressed.
